No Cost Resources for Cluster Administration:
This session covers open-source tools for managing HPC clusters, available through the OpenHPC project and the XSEDE Cyberinfrastructure Resource Integration team. We will cover the basics of cluster administration, and walk through building a small cluster from scratch in the Jetstream cloud. *If hardware is available, it’s an option to use it as an example cluster for the class.
Prerequisites: Linux command line familiarity a big plus
Agenda:
1. Introduction and Cluster concepts overview:
a. Discussion of hardware vs. virtual clusters
2. Cluster build:
a. Headnode configuration
b. Compute node configuration
c. Scheduler setup (SLURM)
d. Software management (modules and spack)
e. Example jobs
f. User Management (slurmdbd)
XSEDE is a virtual organization that provides cyberinfrastructure and technical expertise in high performance computing (HPC) to all disciplines including science, technology, humanities arts, and social sciences.
