Parallel Processing With Python
Host Site:
Texas Advanced Computing Center
Host site URL:
Python is a commonly used language for scientific application development. To take full advantage of modern supercomputing resources or even modest HPC clusters with Python based applications it is crucial that the developer understand how to parallelize their code. This class will cover the Python module, mpi4py, that provides a Message Passing Interface (MPI) implementation and enables multi-node computation. In addition, the multiprocessing module, which provides general multi-process computation, will be covered. Both topics will be illustrated through hands-on examples. This course is intended for students that have proficiency with the Python language and with the Linux OS command-line. In order to participate in the lab exercises, students' machines must have ssh/terminal capability and have logged into TACC HPC systems.
